Silvester Electrical in Matamata

With branches in Morrinsville, Te Aroha, and now Matamata, Silvester Electrical has expanded its reach while staying true to its roots. Their Matamata journey began two years ago, when they acquired Electrico, a familiar local business run by Lynne and Andrew Arts and Grant and Julie Smallwood.

“We were really pleased that Michelle and Damian purchased the business. We knew they were the right people to look after our clients, and being an established electrical company, the transition was seamless,” says Andrew Arts.

The Electrico team was welcomed into the Silvester fold to form a larger crew, whose faces you recognise well! It’s the same local team with the same excellent service, they just have a fresh new look. And although Andrew has retired, his expertise is still on hand when required.

Silvester Electrical has been a trusted name in electrical solutions for nearly 50 years. Established in Morrinsville by Graham and Lynne Silvester in 1976, the family-run business has grown to serve homes, farms, and businesses across the Matamata-Piako District. Today,

their son Damian and his wife Michelle continue this legacy of service, commitment, and community pride.

“Mum and Dad grew the business by looking after their customers, fixing their tricky problems and backing up their work with quality service. I have learnt so much from them and their company values are embedded in the way we operate today, and will continue to operate into the future”.

Silvester Electrical’s experienced team of over 20 technicians and six administration staff ensures a fast and reliable response to any electrical requirement. With fully stocked vans and expertise in domestic, commercial, industrial, and rural electrical work, they’ve got every job covered. “Whether it’s upgrading home lighting, wiring a new build, or solving complex industrial challenges, we bring the same high standard of care to every project,” says Damian.

Rural Expertise You Can Rely On

Silvester Electrical is particularly skilled in rural electrical solutions. From pumps and effluent systems to irrigation and cooling technology, they understand the unique challenges farmers face. “We know downtime isn’t an option for farmers, so we prioritise emergencies and keep them running,” says Damian. And when power outages strike, their portable CAT generator—fondly nicknamed ‘Jenny’—is always ready to save the day.

Investing in the Future

The team also believes in nurturing talent through employing apprentices and involvement in local Gateway programs, helping young locals kick-start their careers in the electrical trade. “Watching apprentices grow into confident registered electricians is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do,” says Michelle.

Their BBQ breakfast toolbox meetings are the perfect way to fuel camaraderie in the workplace, building a culture where team members thrive.

Community at Heart

For Damian, Michelle, and their daughters, Mya and Indi, supporting the community is an important part of what they do. Whether it’s sponsoring local sports clubs/teams, local individuals, community events or volunteering for fundraisers, the Silvesters have always been passionate about giving back. “With two girls of our own, we know how important it is to support local initiatives. It’s our way of saying thank you to a community that supports us,” says Michelle. “Graham who is now retired, still jumps back on the tools and donates his time to sort the electrical needs for community events, he’s a legend!”, Damian adds.

At its core, Silvester Electrical is more than just a business—it’s a family, a legacy, and a vital part

of the Matamata-Piako District. With a commitment to excellence, a team of skilled professionals, and genuine care for their customers, Silvester Electrical continues to be the trusted name locals turn to for all their electrical needs.
